Cooke Barracks Guestbook

Welcome to the CookeBarracks.com Guestbook. 79% of 242 poll respondents said their time at Cooke was either "great" or "the best"; 14% reported "good". Only 7% reported "not so good", or "not good". Clearly, Cooke Barracks was a magical place and, perhaps, that's why so many people visit CookeBarracks.com. CookeBarracks.com was born October 2002 and is responsible for uniting many, many people separated years ago.

This is where those who served at Cooke find each other. You're invited to add your entry so others can find you. For the past ten years, lots and lots of reunions have been made via this Guestbook

Please note your post MUST INCLUDE your FIRST NAME, LAST NAME, and EMAIL ADDRESS or it will not post. Email addresses are hidden by the guestbook software and replaced with email links to prevent spamming and email harvesting. Said differently, your email address remains private unless you respond to a Guestbook entry. Only then will the person you wrote see your email address (but nobody else).

This guestbook includes a couple thousand entries over ten years. So, there's little point in searching page by page to locate someone. This is where Google is put to work. Here's how to search for a long lost friend:

Go to www.google.com and search for your friend exactly like you see in the line below (this includes the quotation marks and "plus sign" immediately next to 'cookebarracks.com'):

"First-name Last-name" +cookebarracks.com

Trust me, if your friend has posted an entry in the last decade, Google will return a direct link to the appropriate Guestbook page so you can email your friend.

I was stationed at Cooke from the summer of 1959 to early fall of 1960 when I was discharged. During that time I was TDY with the 4th. Armored Div. honor guard at Bad Tolz ( outside Munich) for several months. I have lost contact with everyone I served with.

I was in the 8th Division Headquarters G-3 Section
with offices in the main Stabsgebaud Building with helicopters landing right outside the office. Generals Watlington and Harold K Johnson were just down the hall from G3 (Lt Col Ben H Ward, ACofS G3)office. I was there in 1956-57 before the 8th Division moved north and enjoyed this location and
the people I served with. These were all college educated people and that made the adventure more pleasant as we all moved from Fort Carson at the same time. We spent a lot of Sundays on the cheap Army bus tours to areas of Germany and a weekend at the Fasching in Munchen. Some of the most memorable times were when we biked to nearby gasthauses for a cheap meal of Viener schnitzel mit kartofeln salat mit bier and talked with the common people.

I was assigned to HHD USMCA, Goeppingen Germany as the NCOIC DIO Supply.
I also worked at the Officer's Club as night manager, and filled in as the bartender sometimes.
I met several great military and civilians.
I revisited Goeppingen Germany in 2008 and it brought tears to my eyes with the great memories that I cherished.

My x-husband and I lived in Sussen off base from 1986-1990. His name was Robert White. I remember walking from downtown to get to the barracks since i worked at the little PX in 1986-87. I remember the yack shack along the way. I ate my pomfrits everyday there. I also worked at the german insurance company right outside of the barracks. I worked at the NCO club and the subshop at the officers club as well. i have such fond memories of this place.

I was stationed with HHC 1st IDF from Nov.1974 - April 1980 and attached to 121 Signal Detachment as a Generator Mechanic. I was in a section with the radio repair section and the NCOIC was a Master Sergeant of the section. I helped those guys in the section put up radio equipment and antenna for the tank gunnery range. Helped take the stuff down.
I spent a lot of time in the Rec Center playing pinnacle and tournament games. The Rec Center director scheduled a lot of 1 day trips like Rothenburg, Switzerland and many more great trips. Went to all the Reforgers on that time, also training at Grafenwoehr, Hohenfels, FTX's back to Goeppingen and also Munsingen and Wildflicken. While in grafenwoehr in black out drive, we heard about a Air Force Jeep with radio equipment on it got ran over by a M60 tank at night. Another time in Graf we saw a M88 pulling another M88 and the engine was burned up.
On Cooke Barracks the German Kantine had good meals and had conversations with german workers like Mr. Kolb(busdriver) etc and others. Had a lot of fun at beerfests, Octoberfest, Winefest and Fasching.I knew Bill Roy, Tino Garcia, George Alvarado, The Dean twins, Leddy from PA, female Cunningham - she was a female track mechanic, Charley Parker, Sgt. Goery (Frenchy). Some of the gasthouses I visit was Sieben Schwaben, Pick Pick, Honey Dew (Hohenstaufen), Eichenhof (Eislingen).
I drove a 2 1/2ton fuel truck with a trailer to top off equipment. It was mogas and diesel.
Besides all the others fest there was the german/American fest on base on the airstrip. We went on many Volksmarches in Goeppingen and area's.
